FAQ
What is PSEGet?
PSEGet, (pee-es-ee get) is a simple windows application that converts PSE quotation reports from PDF format to CSV (Comma Separated Value), Amibroker and Metastock format. The CSV format is a generic format that can be used in any charting software of your choice.
PSE quotation reports can be downloaded from www.pse.com.ph
PSEGet is the only software in the market that provides PSE chart data for local traders and already has gained popularity due to its usability and demand. This unique software is freely available to the public and can be downloaded from www.absolutetraders.com/yeahbah/downloads.php.
Total download to date is over 500.
History of PSEGet
I started trading the local market on February 2005 and I badly needed charting data. I googled and googled and googled but to no avail; free pse data not found! Everyone who has it seems to charge money for it and I’m not willing to pay for it because I’m a cheapskate.
I googled some more and found a software that converts PSE quotation reports into Metastock format. Again it’s not free and the developer is charging a lot of money for it. I gave it a try and realized that it has no use for me because I don’t own a Metastock license and I’m not interested in acquiring one because it’s so damn expensive!
I gave up searching and decided to create my own software that I will have total control of and to end the suffering of those who are paying for data, I decided to give it away for free. Oh at first I tried selling it (hehe), unfortunately there are no takers and so I just gave the damn thing for free.
PSEGet v1.0 was born. It’s usage and functionality is similar to the software I found but with added features. It can parse sector indices, generate data from three sources, BPI, Manila Bulletin and PSE, and supports the Linux operating system. Version 1 is command line application and obviously is not easy to use so I’ve come up with a graphical user interface and named it PSEGet-GUI. Now everyone is happy.
After a few months, my trading skills have improved a little and noticed that there is a need to monitor foreign transactions coming in and out of the PSE. Usually when foreigners buy into the market, an issue usually goes up and goes the other way when they sell.
PSEGet v2 was born. Support for the Linux operating was dropped due to almost zero demand, gave it a pretty GUI, a market summary section where net foreign buying/selling can be viewed and much, much more!
Now everyone is really, really happy.
Download the required files
For PSEGet to work you will need the following:
To download these files just go to www.absolutetraders.com/yeahbah/downloads.php
Install and run PSEGet
Download and Convert – You must be connected to the internet to be able to use this feature. This is the easiest and the quickest way to get PSE data. Simply specify the report date range then click on “Give it me” and you’re done. Tick on “Use proxy” only if you connect to the internet through a proxy. If you are connected to a proxy, do the following:
How to use “Download & Convert”:
Convert From File – This feature is useful to users who connect to the internet at work and do not have the luxury of the internet at home. At work you could just download all the PSE quotation reports, take it home with you then load it to PSEGet.

Classic Convert – I added this feature just in case some users are having trouble with “Download & Convert” and “Convert from File” and to those people who do not wish to install PSEGet’s support files and MS .Net Framework, this is for you. Using this feature is very simple:

Target Output – You have three choices: CSV, Amibroker and Metastock. The CSV (Comma Separated Value) format is a text file that you can use in any charting software available in the market. Date Format, CSV Format, Delimiter, are provided to the user who wants to customize the outputted csv file.
If you wish to directly send the data to your Amibroker, select “Amibroker Direct”. Select Metastock if you wish to have the output in Metastock data format.

Directory – If you chose “CSV” as target, you will need to specify the output directory where the csv file or files would be saved. The default directory is PSEGet’s installation directory.

Date Format – If you wish to have a csv file with a different date format other than MM/DD/YYYY then just specify it on the text box provided.
CSV Format – You may modify the ordering of the columns by changing the selected value in the combo boxes.

Delimiter – If you have any reason to change the default delimiter character provided by PSEGet, you may do so by changing the value in the text box provided. The TAB character is represented by “\t”.

Single Directory – This option is provided only if you chose “Metastock” as the target output. If you have this selection box ticked, PSEGet will dump all metastock data files into a single directory, if not PSEGet will create a directory based on the first letter of the ticker. All issues starting with “A” will be saved in “A” directory, those starting with “B” to “B” directory and so on.

Index value as volume – This options applies only to PSEi and PSE sector indices. Tick this option if you want to use the value of the number of shares traded. Leave it unchecked to use the number of shares traded instead of its value. This option is ticked by the default.

Follow the steps below for downloading PSE historical data:
Warning: Do not select “Amibroker Direct” as the output target because it’s very very very very very very slow. It’s not PSEGet’s fault for it being to slow, it is the communication between PSEGet and Amibroker.
Sending data from PSEGEt to Amibroker directly is easy:
Importing CSV files into Amibroker:
The next time you import csv files to Amibroker, just click go to File > Import ascii and select the csv file you wish to import.
I don’t have the Metastock software so I don’t know how. Please email me if you want to contribute to this section.
When upgrading, you only need to download PSEGet core files (pseget-v2.x.x-stable.zip) and overwrite the existing files in your PSEGet install directory e.g. C:\PSEGet.
Right-click the PSEGet’s installation directory then click “Delete”. Simple is it not?
If you have profited huge amount of money from the PSE, I would appreciate it if you would share a few pesos. C’mon man, my cats are starving. Email me at yeahbah [at] gmail [dot] com if you’re interested.
